Interview of Sh S S Deswal, DG ITBP with Defence and Security Alert

Sh Surjeet Singh Deswal, IPS, is also a law graduate. Before taking over as DG, ITBP, he held the positions of Commissioner of Police & Director General in various departments of Police force. He has also headed SSB & BSF for some time. He has been awarded the Indian Police Medal for meritorious service in 2001 & President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service in 2012. As DG,ITBP, he has taken initiatives like maintaining physical fitness of the personnel and proposed tourism in the Himalayas and gave the message of clean Himalayas by visiting difficult border areas on foot and boosted the morale of Himveers.

Impeccable Naval Force

The establishment of Defence Space Agency (DSA) was approved by the
government on 30 October 2018. DSA has been established as the triservices
nodal agency that would perform all important functions of coordination
of all defence related space activities. The DSA is the first step towards
implementation of space programme for the Indian Armed Forces.

TECH-SAVVY FORCE: CISF

Sh Rajesh Ranjan, Director General of Central Industrial Security Force (CISF).
Will CISF acquire drones for surveillance-in-depth in hostile territory? The
CISF has not been mandated with offensive operations against LWE elements.
However, CISF has been assigned to extend security to installations located in
LWE affected areas, within its limits. Within the area of responsibility in these
installations, effective on ground surveillance system is already in place.
Option of airborne early warning system shall be explored as per guidelines
in this regard keeping in view the threat perception, in future.
